Returning to his childhood home many decades later, our client sought to restore and renew this midcentury modern in a way that both honored and reinvigorated the original architectural legacy. Designed in 1955 by his father, Berkeley architect Jack Robbins, the home consists of two pavilions connected by a glass bridge with sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay.
Carefully blending old and new, a full renovation ensued - the floor plan was rearranged to better integrate the kitchen, living, and dining spaces. A small half bath was added, and the primary suite was reconfigured to optimize the compact footprint. Walnut paneling was used as a recurring design element to bring contrast, warmth and expression to the interior partition walls.
